Job Description
The Manager: Research & Development will be responsible for managing and overseeing the research and development (R&D) portfolio, programmes and projects, including staff in the R&D department, for safe management, storage and disposal of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel generated from nuclear operations within the boundaries of South Africa.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The appointed candidate will perform the following job activities:
- Manage the R&D team and ensure that policies and procedures are kept.
- Develop and execute R&D plans for waste management and disposal.
- Identify and report any technical issues found when evaluating technologies and products.
- Oversee research work, tests and analyses and assess how processes are
- Budget and forecast new research plans and developments
- Use creative skills and research knowledge to improve technologies and facilities for waste management and disposal.
- Attend conferences and present research topics.
- Collaborate with radioactive waste management organisations and research institutions on R&D on waste management and disposal.

- Competency in collecting, organising, interpreting, and evaluating data from various sources, such as experiments, surveys, literature or any kind of research.
- Strong analytical skills to identify patterns, trends, gaps, and opportunities in the data, and to draw logical and valid conclusions.
- Good technical writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Good time management skills and an ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks.
- Good presentation skills
Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of the R&D role and activities.
